Ceramics Art and Perception- Forms and Evidence
Ferri Farahmandi is a ceramic artist who creates female figures that look as if they are bound in coils or wraps, which have an absence in color and are informally represented. Farahmandi 's belief is that freedom does not exist and that we all are bound by the restrictions of society and yet we do not struggle against these bonds. Her belief is clearly shown through her figures. Although Farahmandi says that her work is all about the nature of human beings and is not meant to be political, her work generates much political debate, but whenever the topic of freedom comes into play it is bound to happen.
Farahmandi denies any political references in her work, yet they are open for interpretation. These pieces have a hint of feminism about them and since Ferri creates the female figure, and only the female figure, this further hints to feminism. There is something disturbing about seeing women bound, but what makes them more disturbing is that they are passive and don't seem to by trying to break free, like they are in harmony with their condition or that they are conditioned to it. What is even more disturbing is that when looking at women in today’s society, this sadly seems true.
