Contemporary Chinese Ceramics- Wan Liya
Wan Liya is a contemporary Chinese ceramic artist who was born in 19623 and who hails from Qingdao. He received his education from the Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing after leaving his job as a merchant seaman. Once he graduated from the Fine Art Academy, he established his own ceramic studio. Liya is known to be one of the earliest artists who has been involved in Chinese contemporary ceramic art and has been involved in many significant art activities that greatly influenced the progress of the modernization of Chinese ceramic art. Wan's art uses a combination of ceramic quality and sculptural language and takes into consideration of the time-honored tradition of Chinese ceramic art and his mental perception of the intense change in contemporary society. Wan's work is also very experimental and takes objects that are familiar to us, such as the objects that are seen in this image above, and looks at them in different ways. He has taken these objects that are normally thrown away such as spray bottles, coffee cups, soda bottles and cans, and has transformed them into a beautiful panorama of mountains.
