"Yin and Yang"
This piece titled "Yin and Yang" is a self relfection that explores the conflict between the spiritual and the physical. This piece was created out of stoneware using slabs and press molds, and it was finished with house paint and doilies created by women form the past. The doilies were then intertwined with yarn to create an intricate, geometric pattern.
It often seems that when one grows up in a religious family, one is taught good morals and values, but there is always the want from the physical body that creates a struggle between what the body wants and what your spiritual self believes. This piece shows that struggle to keep the balance by keeping certain subject matters, such as sex, at an arms length away.
Another layer of this sculpture is exposing the female form. The form is beautiful, yet very hard and manaquin-like, the doilies were placed on top to create a layer of softness.
